Driving license B

The B driving license authorises the driving of:
- Motor vehicles on three wheels, other than two-wheeled motor vehicles with sidecar.
- Motor vehicles on four or more wheels, whose maximum authorised mass does not exceed 3500 kilograms and which are not equipped for the transport of more than 8 persons, not including the driver.
- Motor vehicles equipped for the carriage of no more than eight persons, not including the driver, whose authorised mass due to armouring fitted to the vehicle exceeds 3500 kilograms.
To take driving lessons, you must be at least 16.5 years old. Your driving license must not have been withdrawn or confiscated.
Without holding a driving license B+, or BE, a trailer may be driven if the:
- The permissible maximum mass of the trailer does not exceed 750 kilograms. Also, if the total mass of the towing motor vehicle and trailer exceeds 3500 kilograms.
- The authorised maximum mass of the trailer exceeds 750 kilograms, as long as the total mass of the towing motor vehicle and the trailer does not exceed 3500 kilograms.
Something that many people do not understand is the part about the trailer.
You are always allowed to drive with a trailer up to 750 kilograms, even if the car’s and trailer’s combined weight exceeds 3500 kilograms.
If the trailer weighs over 750 kilograms, you must add the combined weight of the car and the trailer. A driving licence B is sufficient if the weight remains below 3500 kilograms.
If the weight of the car and the trailer exceeds 3500 kilograms, then the driving licence required depends on the total weight.
If the total weight is more than 3500 but less than 4250 kilograms, a driving licence B+ is sufficient.
A driving licence BE is required if the total weight is more than 3500 but less than 7000 kilograms.
