Cycle path

A cycle path is separated from the carriageway.
Cyclists and drivers of a snorfiets must use the mandatory cycle path.
Pedestrians may walk on the mandatory cycle path if there is no sidewalk or footpath.
Drivers of vehicles for disabled persons may use a mandatory cycle path.
Horse riders are not allowed to use a mandatory cycle path.
You may encounter a cycle path both inside and outside built-up areas.
In an increasing number of places in the Netherlands, snorfietsen are no longer allowed to use a mandatory cycle path and must ride on the carriageway. In areas where they are not permitted to use a mandatory cycle path, this is indicated by traffic signs.

There are also optional cycle paths.
Cyclists, riders of snorfietsen equipped with an electric motor, and drivers of vehicles for disabled persons are permitted to use an optional cycle path.
Riders of snorfietsen equipped with a combustion engine may only use an optional cycle path with the engine switched off.
