Brommobiel

The CBR does not translate the word “brommobiel” to, for example, “micro car.” Therefore, you will need to be familiar with the term “brommobiel.”
A brommobiel is a moped, but it is a moped with more than two wheels and a body.
To drive a brommobiel, you must have a valid AM driving license.
The maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour must be indicated on the rear of a moped. This must be on a round white sticker with a red border. The font must be black.
The speed limit for a brommobiel is 45 kilometers per hour. Therefore, they are not permitted on autowegen or motorways. On these roads, the motor vehicle must be able to travel at least 50 or 60 kilometers per hour.
However, drivers of a brommobiel are permitted to drive on roads both within and outside built-up areas. Therefore, you can expect to see a moped car even on roads outside built-up areas, where the speed limit is 80 kilometers.
A brommobiel is not a motor vehicle, but a motor carriage.
A driver of a brommobiel must follow the rules that apply to a motor vehicle. This includes:
- The requirement to wear seatbelts applies.
- They must drive on the carriageway. This applies both within and outside built-up areas.
- A brommobiel may not park on the sidewalk.
- At sign F1: “Prohibition for motor vehicles to overtake each other,” the driver of a brommobiel may not overtake other motor vehicles or be overtaken.
Signs C6, C9, and C12 apply to moped car drivers.
Article 1 of the Road Traffic Regulations (RVV):
Brommobiel: a moped with more than two wheels, equipped with a body.
