Moped

A moped is not a motor vehicle, but a motor carriage.
The speed limit for a moped on the carriageway, both within and outside built-up areas, is 45 kilometers per hour.
The speed limit for a moped on a cycle/moped path within built-up areas is 30 kilometers per hour.
The speed limit for a moped on a cycle/moped path outside built-up areas is 40 kilometers per hour.
A snorfiets is also considered a moped by law. However, the driver of a snorfiets must follow the rules that apply to cyclists.
The speed limit for a snorfiets is 25 kilometers per hour.
The Road Traffic Act (RVV) does not define a moped, but the Road Traffic Act (WVW) does.
Article 1e of the WVW.
a. a two-wheeled motor carriage with a maximum design speed of no more than 45 km/h, equipped with a combustion engine with a cylinder capacity of no more than 50 cm3 or an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 4 kW, other than a disabled persons vehicle, or a motor carriage as referred to in subsection d;
b. a three-wheeled motor carriage with a maximum design speed of no more than 45 km/h, other than a disabled persons vehicle, or a motor carriage as referred to in subsection d, equipped with:
1°. a spark-ignition engine with a cylinder capacity of no more than 50 cm3,
2°. an internal combustion engine with a net maximum power of no more than 4 kW for engines other than those mentioned in 1°, or
3°. an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 4 kW; or
c. A four-wheeled motor carriage, other than a disabled persons vehicle, or a motor carriage as referred to in subsection d, with a maximum design speed of no more than 45 km/h and an unladen mass of less than 350 kg, excluding the mass of batteries in electric vehicles, equipped with:
1°. an engine with spark ignition and a cylinder capacity of no more than 50 cm³,
2°. an internal combustion engine with a net maximum power of no more than 4 kW for engines other than those mentioned in 1°, or
3°. an electric motor with a maximum continuous nominal power of no more than 4 kW;
d. a motor carriage as referred to in Article 20b.
In any case, a moped is considered a vehicle that is designated as such according to the issued vehicle registration certificate.
