Crossing junctions

When approaching a junction, you must be mindful of drivers to whom you must give way. Therefore, adjust your speed in time to have enough time to react to situations arising at the junction. For example, if you drive up at high speed and have to brake hard for a driver coming from the right only at the last moment, you are not really giving right of way.

If you have to stop, do so in such a way that you do not come to a standstill at the junction or crosswalks. In other words, you should not block the traffic at the junction you are approaching, so you should only cross a junction when you can drive all the way through or when it is possible for you to line up between the intersecting traffic flows without blocking the junction.

gelijkwaardigIn the situation shown here, moped (A) must yield to cars B and C, and is now blocking the free passage of moped (D). The moped driver was therefore forced to stop before the junction.

gelijkwaardig 2Moped (A) doesn’t have the opportunity to position itself between the intersecting traffic streams here. It has clearly driven too far into the junction, blocking the path of the yellow cars.
Here too, the moped driver was forced to stop before the junction.
