h1 bebouwde komYou are driving within the built-up area as soon as you have passed the traffic sign H1, built-up area.

The speed limit for motor vehicles is not always 50 kilometers per hour. On through roads and essential entrance and exit roads, the speed limit is sometimes set at 70 kilometers per hour. Road signs then indicate a different speed limit.

In 30-kilometer-per-hour zones, the speed limit is 30 kilometers per hour. This does not apply to snorfietsen. A speed limit of 25 kilometers per hour applies to snorfietsen.

A speed limit of 15 kilometers per hour applies in an erf (home zone). This speed applies until you have left the erf.

You have to adjust the speed to the circumstances. These may include:

      • Shopping streets.
      • Schools.
      • Places where children play.
      • A bad road surface.
      • A slippery road surface.
      • The weather.
      • Tram and bus stops.
      • Crossing points.
      • Slow-moving other traffic.
      • Traffic humps. These are built for different passing speeds. The most common speed is between 15 and 30 km/h. Some speed bumps even require you to come to a virtual standstill to avoid damage to the car.

Caution! Do not wrongly assume that the speed limit on an autoweg is always 100 kilometers per hour. This speed limit only applies outside built-up areas. The speed limit on an autoweg within the built-up area is 50 kilometers per hour, until you have passed the end of built-up area sign.
