Introduction to the chapter on traffic lights and signals by authorised persons

Traffic lights are intended to regulate traffic. Because some directions get green and others red, it regulates who can pass. In this way, the government tries to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible from all directions. When traffic lights are placed at an intersection, the usual right-of-way rules no longer apply; instead, you have to pay attention to the colour of the traffic light. Most people think of traffic lights only as traffic lights at intersections, but there are more, as you can read on the following pages.
