Broken line

You may cross a broken line used to divide the carriageway into lanes. Sometimes a broken line is changed to a warning line. You may also cross this, but you must exercise even more caution than usual.

With normal lines, the ratio of line to open area is approximately 1:3. This could be 1 meter line, 3 meters open. Or 3 meters line, 9 meters open.

With warning lines, the ratio of line to open area is approximately 3:1. This could be 3 meters line, 1 meter open. Or 9 meters line, 3 meters open.
