Edge line

An edge line is a solid line along the side of the carriageway. You are allowed to drive across this line to access a shoulder, a rush-hour lane, an emergency lane, a refuge, or a parking lane, for example.
This makes sense, because otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to access a refuge in case of a breakdown, as in the image.
