After passing this sign, the speed limit is 50 kilometers per hour, unless otherwise indicated. Therefore, the sign does not need to be combined with a sign indicating a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour.
The entrance to a built-up area must be visible because the character of the road environment changes compared to a road outside a built-up area. A built-up area is characterised by buildings along the road of such size and density that a clear difference in road characteristics is emphasised. This sign indicates that you are entering a built-up area. The sign can be placed either to the right or to the left of the road.
Sometimes the speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour is indicated by sign A1. It is also possible that when entering a built-up area, you are also entering a 30 km/h zone.

Within built-up areas, drivers must give bus drivers the opportunity to leave a bus stop when the bus driver signals their intention to depart. This applies not only to public transport but also to coaches.

When entering built-up areas, be mindful of slowing drivers.
Sometimes the built-up area only applies for a short distance. Locally known drivers don’t always reduce their speed in such cases.

The speed limit for mopeds within built-up areas is 30 kilometers per hour. This speed limit applies only on moped paths. If a moped is riding on the carriageway, the speed limit is 45 kilometers per hour.
Snorfietsen may not exceed 25 kilometers per hour, both within and outside built-up areas.

Mopeds must ride on the carriageway within built-up areas, unless there are separate cycle/moped paths. In that case, moped riders are required to follow these rules.
Moped riders may only use bicycle lanes to overtake a vehicle turning left or to pre-sort for the right direction.

This sign indicates that you are leaving a built-up area. The sign can be placed either to the right or to the left of the road.
Sometimes the speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour is indicated by sign A1. It is also possible that you will also enter a 60 km/h zone when leaving a built-up area.

Outside built-up areas, you are not required to give bus drivers the opportunity to pull away from a bus stop.

Roads outside built-up areas are quite dangerous. People often drive very fast there, resulting in many accidents.

Some drivers increase their speed well before this sign. Keep an eye out for hurried drivers behind you who want to overtake.

It is not prohibited for pedestrians and cyclists, for example, to drive outside built-up areas. You can encounter all road users on the road outside built-up areas.
