Towing other vehicles

Towing another car is permitted. The driver of the sleeping car must have a valid driver’s license.

Passengers must sit in the towing vehicle as much as possible.

The distance between the rear of the towing vehicle and the front of the towed vehicle may not exceed 5 meters. A red flag in the middle is not required.

The CBR (Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing) may ask whether you are permitted to tow another car if the distance between the rear of the towing vehicle and the front of the towed vehicle is 1 meter. The answer is: YES. The distance may not exceed 5 meters!

A common nonsense is whether you’re allowed to tow a car with an 8-meter rope. The answer, according to many, is no. The correct answer is YES! It’s not the length of the rope that matters. If you double up an 8-meter rope, it’s only 4 meters long. It’s the distance from the rear of the towing vehicle to the front of the towed vehicle that matters, not the length of the rope. Even if a rope is 20 meters long, you’re allowed to use it for towing, as long as the distance from the rear of the towing vehicle to the front of the towed vehicle doesn’t exceed 5 meters!

You are not permitted to tow a motorcycle or a car with a trailer, as shown in the image at the top of this page.
Of course, towing a car with a motorcycle is also prohibited, as shown in the image below.
